Instructors and Hockey Schools
Whether you work with small groups of players or run large camps with many players, the Bronko Belt gives you a way to challenge your players and further their development. It is a versatile tool that can be used to achieve a number of different goals. The way you use the belt will depend on the players you are working with and the areas in which they’d like to improve. Many younger players can’t achieve the deep knee bend they need to produce long powerful strides.
They tend to stand up straight when skating resulting in less top speed, less stability and less agility. The belt can help them build up the single leg strength needed to achieve and maintain a deeper knee bend because the adjustable training weight of the belt sits on the hips and exerts a downward force on the glide leg that players must overcome to stay in the proper stance. The strength and balance to stay in this position is an essential part of developing proper technique and improving power and explosiveness.
It’s also common for younger players to simply scratch the surface of the ice when they skate. They often don’t apply the strength they have into the ice effectively to produce as much speed as they could.
Using the belt can help players learn to use their edges aggressively to dig into the ice with their skate blade during each skating maneuver to overcome the added resistance the belt provides. Players learn to express their strength in a co-ordinated manner to produce the sport-specific movement patterns they use every game.
A weak core is another reason players may not be able to develop the explosiveness or agility they need. A strong core is essential for stability when battling for the puck as well. Players training with the Belt must use their core to stabilize the training weight each time they stride or change direction. They develop dynamic balance as they make small adjustments to control the training weight each time they perform a skating maneuver.
If you’re running conditioning camps or are simply looking for a way to increase the conditioning component of your training the belt can help. Wearing the belt will help increase the intensity of drills and force players to work harder. When players take the belt off they feel lighter and continue practicing with more “jump” in their stride. Race, pursuit and mirror drills add competition and intensity, which is a key component to improving anaerobic conditioning.
The belt comes in two sizes and the fit of each belt is adjustable so players aged 9+ can find a belt that will fit properly. The amount of training weight is also adjustable so you can make it appropriate for the players you’re working with and their training goals.
The belt allows you to add resistance across the full range of skating movements and because it rests comfortably on the hips, you don’t have to focus just on skating—your players’ hands are free to shoot, pass and stickhandle normally so they can focus on the the training and the instruction rather than on the belt. By investing in the belt you are adding a powerful and versatile tool to your business that can drive your players’ development and set yourself apart from other schools and instructors.

"We have our entire organization using the Bronko Belt this year. Paired with a good skills development program it'll really help the kids with their acceleration and agility. We think it's a tremendous way, at a reasonable cost, to help further [our players'] development."

"Would I recommend the Bronko belt? Absolutely. Coaches/programs spend thousands of dollars on bungee systems, passing trainers, weighted pucks, as well as "the next great thing." All take up time/space on the ice when using them. The Bronko belt does not. Personally, with the Bronko belt, I've found I can have uptempo edge specific sessions in 50 minutes of ice time rather than our normal 90 minutes without the belts. I find we spend much less ice time for conditioning drills when using the belts."
“I have really enjoyed the Bronko belt. My top athletes are always looking for ways to be pushed. I’ve tried using weighted jackets, wrist weights but nothing compares to the Bronko Belt. I feel with its proportional weighting, goalies get the full advantage of training with more weight. I develop goalies at all levels. I’ve worked with many pro goalies. I am always looking for ways to gain a competitive advantage for Goaltender development. The Bronko Belt is certainly a product that will push my athletes to becoming quicker and more agile. I highly recommend this product.”
"In the hyper competitive game of Rep Minor Hockey, coaches are always looking for any advantage, and to my surprise the effect of a simple customized sport specific weight belt has delivered just that. Using the Bronko belt from Atom through to Bantam, I can unequivocally confirm that our conditioning and skating posture has improved, and our players enjoy a zest of confidence when they remove the belts after our 20 minute skating set at the beginning of each practice."
"I think it's an excellent tool for developing skating power and speed... I highly recommend using the Belt. I think every pro team, every junior team should have a couple of belts"
